Pottery sales, a half-marathon for charity, and more highlight the activities taking place in St. Albert this weekend.

     1. Potters Guild spring sale

The St. Albert Potters Guild is hosting their annual spring sale this weekend at city hall.

The sale, which actually got underway Thursday evening, will run from 10:00 a.m. till 9:00 p.m. on Friday and from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Saturday.

“The potters guild of St Albert have been working hard creating all kinds of pieces with clay,” reads an advertisement about the sale on the city's website. “From household to garden, you’ll find pieces that will meet your needs.”

“Call your family and friends, and experience a wonderful time shopping and enjoying works of art.”

The Guild is also collecting donations for the St. Albert Food Bank, so those attending the sale are encouraged to bring non-perishable food to donate. As well, the Guild's website says any proceeds from the sale will be donated to the Food Bank, and cash donations will also be accepted.

     2. RunWild

The 13th annual RunWild races and half-marathon, organized by Leading Edge Physiotherapy, is this weekend in St. Albert.

The half-marathon will start at 8:00 a.m. on Sunday morning, with runners taking off from St. Albert Place and heading east on Sturgeon Road all the way until Range Road 251 in Sturgeon County before heading back towards city hall via Bellerose Drive before cutting through Oakmont to get back on Sturgeon Road.

At 8:40 a.m. on Sunday those partaking in the 10 kilometre event will take off from city hall but head north into the Mission neighbourhood and then Deer Ridge to reach J.J. Nearing Catholic Elementary before running a nearly identical route back downtown.

Those running in the 5K race will start at 9:00 a.m., and run a similar route to the 10K group but will turn back after reaching McKenney Avenue.

Formal registration for each of the races is now closed, however, event organizers will be accepting limited late registrations on Friday from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. and on Saturday from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at Red Willow Place on Tache Street (the St. Albert Seniors Association building).

“We are unable to guarantee a race T-shirt, medal, chipped bib or race package for those who register late, but we are grateful for your support and would love to see you,” RunWild's website reads.

All of the proceeds from the event will be donated to the St. Albert Seniors Association and the Zebra Child and Youth Advocacy Centre

     3. So Noted! sings Les Mis

Community choir group So Noted! will be singing some select tunes from Les Mis on Saturday with two show times.

The shows are taking place at 2:30 p.m. and then again at 7:30 p.m. at the St. Albert United Church on Green Grove Drive.

Standard tickets are $20, although there is a VIP ticket option that will come with French wine, cheese and a “special gift,” the group's manager Verla Carter said in an email.

Tickets can be purchased by emailing [email protected] or by calling 780-238-5617.

The Les Mis performance will mark the end of the group's inaugural season.

     4. Rain barrel sale

St. Albertans in need of a rain barrel are in luck, as the city will be holding its annual barrel sale this Saturday.

Rain barrels are designed to attach to the gutters on a house for the purpose of collecting rainwater to, for example, water gardens, which reduces the amount of treated water residents use in the summer while also reducing water bills.

The sale is taking place at the L.B.H. Timber Mart in Riel Business Park starting at 8:30 a.m. on Saturday, May 4.

“The 208-litre (55 gallons) rain barrels have a unique shape and are a neutral colour that will blend into any garden scape,” the city's website reads. “They are constructed with up to 50 per cent recycled materials and include a spigot, mosquito mesh, lid and overflow hose that can be linked to another barrel.”

Barrels will cost $65.00, and there will be a limit of two per person, according to the city's website. The sale is also first come first serve, meaning there will be no way to reserve a barrel or pre-pay.

“Rain barrels can be picked up in the L.B.H. building centre yard after payment is made in store,” the city says online.
